Elementary Algebra and Arithmetic, Online Distance Learning made easy |
|
In a distance learning math course, administering materials such as problem sets, solutions, instruction, demonstrations, printouts etc., can be extremely cumbersome via email. Self teaching from a textbook or static set of notes is tedious and demanding of a student.
Use of self Teaching software, neutralizes many of the difficulties in conducting an online distance learning math course.
Here is how:
-A student is presented with a course syllabus (which may be on the web.)
-In a four credit course, a professor is usually obligated to four hours, often with an additional office hour.
-Student proceeds to learn from easy to use, brief, animated, self teaching modules, accessible 24/7 from anywhere.
-Depending on the number of students in the distance learning class, each student is allocated a "time to call."
e.g. Class size of sixteen students allows for a minimum of 15 minutes/student to ask questions. The professor may allocate Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm for eight students to call during their fifteen minute period. The other eight students call Wednesday morning 9-11am. An office hour is "first come, first serve." The professor can be anywhere with access to the web, during the those times.
If a student calls with a question, both student and professor view the same slide/module simultaneously on the web. The question (s) are resolved--done. Student self instruction continues asynchronously.
